Message in the Moment

There is a message in every moment, ya know. Everything in nature can teach you something. I am currently reading a book on leadership by a national evangelist, and he states that you can learn more about leadership and succession planning by watching how animals teaches it’s young to hunt or survive. (1) It’s all about mentoring through watching proven techniques and principles of your predecessor. The story of Saul and David are fine examples of succession, in leadership. There was a search that ensued for the right man to lead, and the next two verses tell a small part of the process, watch this, “And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.” Samuel 16:3 ….Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.” Samuel 16:13 However please read all of Samuel 16, because many people miss the part in between, the trial, strife, the grooming, and the courtship; they actually think leaders are just chosen without any reason or process.
We as young warriors for Christ have few mentors and are left to hunt for answers to critical questions such as planning a ministry, staffing, succession planning and other important managerial concerns. We often learn haphazardly by simple trial and error, but this is our own fault. Some ministers do not like to share the spot light with others, however to be effective you must link into a spiritual covering to provide you with wisdom and a sounding board for ideas. This must be someone you can trust who will not berate you and provide you constructive criticism. As you have witnessed lately, pastors who have great churches with no accountability are set up for failure. This type ministry has little interest in his flock, but makes the parishioner think he is involved with small public acts of kindness with film crew and all!
I really was not going to talk about this subject today, however I feel it is important for some new pastor out there to know that no man is an island and he must get linked into mentoring from a spiritual father to be successful to serve his community well. The Lord had disciples around him through his few years of ministry, advisers and people help him walk out his destiny. You should too!
Remember God loves you, get linked in to your local church, and love others with a passion. Be great leaders and workers in the body of Christ, and minister where you are and help someone in need.
Love Dede
