Walk This Way

My sister and I went on a semi-vacation over the spring holiday. We toured, made new relationships and rekindled old ones. The outlying areas were beautiful and the people very charming and hospitable. The main thing that impacted me was the inner city distress and lack of resources.  I saw few youth recreation facilities or healthy socialization opportunities. This was very troubling to me for a lot of reasons.
When I got back home and went to work the following Monday I had a planned writing lesson on human needs and personal wants. During a classroom discussion one of my students stated that one of his greatest needs was his family. Now, that response was lowest on our list of human needs, but he felt that family was a priority. He was totally right!
I am convinced that successful and knowledgeable people make family a priority, and a close knit family is a necessary support system. However, many youth today do not have that basic need to provide them with the drive to continue their education, strive for successful professions, or even cultivate healthy relationships.
Many gangs and crimes committed in our nation today are fueled by young men and women who have little parental support. God says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” Hosea 4:6
This says to me that poor parenting breeds children who reject authority, embrace violence and become lawless. The Lord just can't bless a mess.  Psalms 1:1 “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”
Folks we must embrace our children, raise them the way God intended. Please read the manual (Bible) and give them our best! If you cannot parent well, seek help from church or take a community parenting class in your area. We have not because we do not seek right counsel, saith the Lord.
Love,
Dedee
